NWFP to set up its own moon sighting panel

PESHAWAR—The NWFP Minister for Religious Affairs Maulana Amanullah Haqani has said that the MMA government has decided to set up a provincial Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will have its sub-committees in all districts of the province while the final decision will rest with the provincial committee about moon sighting of Ramzan, Eidul Fitr and Eidul Azha.
He was briefing the journalists after a day-long meeting of religious scholars (Ulema) from across the province held here at Frontier House on Monday. He said that the participants were unanimous on setting up a fresh Ruet-e-Hilal committee, comprising prominent ulema from all schools of thoughts, at provincial level, which will have its branches in all the districts of the province. He said that the meeting was presided over by eminent scholar Maulana Hasan Jan while Maulana Fazl Rehman, Opposition leader in the National Assembly was chief guest on the occasion.
