Law, Justice Ministry celebrates World Human Rights Day

ISLAMABAD—The Regional Directorate of Ministry of Law, and justice,
organized a one-day seminar at a local hotel on Monday to celebrate the
World Human rights Day. The day is being celebrated with the theme of
'Development of Human Rights friendly culture is must for social fiber'.
The Provincial Minister for Zakat, Usher & Social Welfare, Hafiz Hashmat
was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Hafiz Hashmat drew the attention of the audience toward the
contradictions in the speech and practice of World powers, which are
impersonating as Champions of Human Rights but in fact are directly
responsible for the death and destruction of innocent Muslims in Iraq,
Palestine and Kashmir. The Minister endorsed the opinion that the denial
of basic human rights to Muslims around the world is sowing the seeds of
terrorism. He recalled the glorious deeds of Holy Prophet (PBUH) whose
life was a practical manifestation of the golden principles of Islam and
said that human rights can ideally be secured by adapting our lives
according to Quran and Sunnah.
He said that Islam has given due emphasis to the rights of vulnerable
members of society particularly the women, children and the destitute.
Provincial government has made significant progress in the
rehabilitation of beggars, destitute and drug addicts. He invited the
participants to visit the government welfare homes to witness the
dedicated efforts of provincial governments for the welfare of the
downtrodden sections of the society. Speaking on the occasion Shah Zaman
Afridi, Director of the Regional Directorate for Law and Justice,
informed the audience that the Directorate has implemented a successful
project for the rehabilitation of prisoners at Central Jail Haripur
where the prisoners have been helped to acquire graduation degrees and
similar projects will be launched at Central Jail Bannu. He informed the
gathering that on the intervention of Governor, Provincial Human Rights
Monitoring Committee has been setup with Home Secretary in charge. Naeem
Iqbal, representative of provincial law department said that a committee
has been constituted under secretary law for the review of existing laws
and bring them in consonance with the International declarations on
human rights.
Ijaz- Durrani, speaking as representative of NGO's, stressed the need
for bringing a change in attitudes of the society where people should
indulge in self-accountability rather than having a holier than their
attitude. |
