`Interfaith harmony must for peace: Rashid

ISLAMABAD—People in Pakistan enjoy full liberty to practice their faith without any discrimination on basis of religion, colour, creed and caste.This was stated by Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed at “Interfaith Christmas Dinner”, organized by Interfaith League against Poverty (ILAP) to promote inter-faith harmony here on Sunday. He said that interfaith harmony was must for world peace.
The unique feature of the programme was participation of Pakistani Sikhs, Hindus, Christians, Muslims, Bhais and Ismailies representatives who underscored the importance of interfaith harmony, unity and religious tolerance.
The minister said that government had taken several steps to create an awareness of the importance of promoting interfaith harmony, tolerance and religious freedom among the people by effective use of print and electronic media, workshop and seminars.
He stressed the need for initiating interfaith dialogue among different religions and civilizations to remove the prevailing misunderstandings between the East and West to avert major conflicts in future and make the world a peaceful place to live in.
The minister said that there was need of collective efforts to promote religious harmony, socials justice and equality and check evil elements in the society.
On this occasssion, Dramatic Society of Qauid-e-Azam University, under the supervision of Naeem Talpur presented Mime Therateres. The title of the mimes were “Human Brain”, “The wall against all odds” and Mirror, which underlined the importance of living under one umbrella and struggle for peace and interfaith harmony.
