Japan to pledge funds to UNICEF for eradication of polio

ISLAMABAD—The Federal Minister for Health, Mr. Muhammad Nasir Khan will be the Chief Guest at a Signing Ceremony and Exchange of Notes between the Government of Japan and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) which will take place in Islamabad on Friday at 11:00 hours in the Committee Room of the Ministry of Health..
H.E Mr.Seiji Kojima, Ambassador of Japan, and Mr. Terje Thodesen, UNICEF’s Acting Representative in Pakistan will sign the agreement whereby Japan will pledge further funds towards the eradication of polio in Pakistan.
Pakistan started its fight against polio 11 years ago in 1994 when the first round of National Immunization Days (NIDs) began. UNICEF has continuously supported Pakistan in this endeavor along with other partners including the Government of Japan.
Till date, 64 successful rounds of National and Sub National Immunization Days have been held in Pakistan.
