Ministry to launch campaign to prevent violence against women

ISLAMABAD—Ministry of Women Development would soon start the next phase
of its community campaign to prevent violence against women, an official
source told APP Thursday.
She said elaborate preparations were in final stages to make the next
phase of community campaign more effective by including media to prevent
violence against women and to promote their rights.
She said the first phase of the project involving a total expenditure of
Rs. 38 million, had been successfully completed, adding hopes were high
to achieve the same concrete result from the next one as well.
She said besides other objectives, the campaign aimed at promoting women
rights and creating awareness through print and electronic media. She
said the first phase of the project included communities’ mobilization
in collaboration with non-governmental organizations, with a special
focus on rural women in the selected five districts where the ministry
was operating crisis centers for victims of violence against women.
Elaborating activities during the first phase, she said 7 workshops were
conducted for police officers in major cities of the country to
sensitize them on issues pertaining to violence against women.
She said a media campaign was launched and 40,000 posters inscribed with
effective slogans on violence against women were designed, printed and
distributed.
