Pak, Brunei to increase defence cooperation

RAWALPINDI—Pakistan and Brunei have expressed the desire to further expand and intensify cooperation in various fields particularly in the area of defence here on Thursday.
This was discussed during a meeting between Senior Federal Minister and Minister for Defence, Rao Sikandar Iqbal, and the Brunei High Commissioner to Pakistan, Mr. Pelim Colonel (Retd) Abdul Jalil Ahmad, who called on the Minister, Thursday.
Both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest. The Minister told the envoy that Pakistan and Brunei enjoyed excellent relations based on bonds of religion, culture and history as well as shared perceptions on a wide range of regional and global issues.
They also expressed the hope that the recently concluded joint Working Committee Meeting on Defence Cooperation Between the two countries at Bandar Seri Begawan (11-12Dec, 2006) would pave the way for enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries.
The minister thanked the govt and people of Brunei for providing prompt assistance to Pakistan in the aftermath of October 8, 2005 earthquake, besides supporting Pakistan’s entry into ASEAN Regional Forum in July 2004. The envoy also thanked the govt of Pakistan for providing training in its various Armed Forces training instructions to the Military personnel of Brunei.
