Govt is
taking initiatives for the betterment of Electricity Consumers: Durrani

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali
Durrani said that the government is taking initiatives for the
betterment of the electricity consumers and giving more than Rupees
fifty billions to the Power Sector in terms of subsidy to keep the
electricity tariff on a affordable level despite the hike in oil prices
in various categories.
He observed this during his visit to the National Electricity Power
Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) headquarters herein Islamabad. Chairman
NEPRA Lt Gen (R) Saeed uz Zafar and Members of the Authority welcomed
the federal minister.
A detailed briefing was given by Chairman NEPRA Lt Gen (R) Saeed uz
Zafar regarding role of the Regulator in the power sector and functions
of the Authority Lt Gen (R) Saeed uz Zafar apprised the federal minister
that an important activity undertaken by NEPRA is arranging open public
hearings workshops and seminars to facilitate the understanding of
electricity regulation and tariff setting. He told that NEPRA is
performing its responsibilities in line with regulation of Generation,
Transmission and Distribution of electric power Act (XL of 1997).
Mohammad Ali Durrani appreciated the role of NEPRA.
He said that various classes regarding functions of the Regulatory
Authorities through open hearings, workshops and seminars. He added that
the Regulatory Authority is safeguarding the interests of the Consumers
and Utility Simultaneously, judiciously and in a very transparent
manner. Durrani said that NEPRA is the pioneer in the regulatory of
Pakistan and assured his full cooperation in achieving the NEPRA’s
objectives according to the Act. |
