Pak, Saudi Arabia pledge to work for World peace

RIYADH—Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Tuesday vowed to continue to play their active role in ensuring peace in the region through increased cooperation. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz soon after his arrival here went into a meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, discussed the situation in region, particularly Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Kashmir and expressed the resolve to seek their solutions by unifying the Muslim world.
The two leaders during their over an hour and a half meeting focused on further intensification of their ties in political, economic, defence and security areas. Prime Minister Aziz said, Pak-Saudi ties were holistic, historic, broad-based and rich
Both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia vowed to intensify cooperation in the war against terrorism. The two leaders said their countries were already united against terrorism and condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They, however, also stressed for identifying and addressing the root causes that lead to such behaviour.
Prime Minister Aziz and the Saudi Crown Prince called for removing the misperceptions that create any linkages between Islam and terrorism. Prime Minister Aziz said that reaction of a few should not be taken as a point of view by all.Shaukat Aziz also briefed the Crown Prince about the situation in the region and Pakistan’s stance.
He told the Saudi Crown Prince about the ongoing Composite Dialogue between Pakistan and India to seek a peaceful and negotiated settlement of the core issue of Kashmir according to the aspirations and wishes of the Kashmiri people. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Tuesday urged the private sectors of both Pakistan and Yemen to fortify their links and increase meaningful interaction by exploring opportunities offered by either country.
He was addressing a large gathering of businessmen and investors of Yemen, on the last day of his three day visit to the Middle Eastern country. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said Yemen was an attractive place for investment and Pakistani investors can find vast opportunities. Similarly, he said there were many areas in Pakistan open for investors from all over the world, including Yemen. The Prime Minister said economic cooperation between the two countries was vital and added that sovereignty of a country was not compromised by foreign investment as long as there was a strong regulatory regime.
He said in an era of globalization there was no space for complacency and there was a need to adapt to the modern requirements by facing the challenges of tomorrow. Prime Minister Aziz assured that Pakistan will assist Yemen in every possible way for joining the WTO.
He said there was no escape and there was the urgent need to prepare for the challenging times ahead. However he said the countries need to constantly reform and meet the requirements of globalization.—APP
