Ground-breaking ceremony of PU Sports Gymnasium held

LAHORE—Punjab University Vice Chancellor Arshad Mahmood performed the ground-breaking ceremony of PU Sports Gymnasium at New Campus here on Tuesday. On this occasion, the VC said sports and other co-curricular activities played a major role in character building of an individual, adding that PU always encouraged sports activities.
He said the university also won 353 out of 396 different competitions with 35 gold medals during last five years. Arshad Mahmood said Sports and Physical Education Department was established in his tenure and all facilities were being provided to students so as to polish their sports potential. Briefing about gymnasium, Project Director Sheikh Muhammad Ali said this state of the art gymnasium would be constructed over an areas of 37,049 square feet with an estimated cost Rs 34.129 million.
The gymnasium would have a sports hall, dressing room, locker room, cafeteria, equipment store, kitchen room, waiting room, administration offices, first-aid dispensary, training centre, instructors staff-room and entrance lobby, he said. Meanwhile, PU Urdu Development Committee met and discussed the issues related to filling of vacant posts, increase in honorarium for authors, display of books at prominent book sellers, compilation of easy Urdu books for foreigner students, allocation of interim grant for publication, approval for publishing of manuscripts of Shah Nawaz Zaidi’s book “Radio, TV Production” and increase in honorarium for committee’s convener.
