Pakistan on
top in Blind Cricket World Cup
ISLAMABAD—Pakistan beat West Indies by 10 wickets to take top place in
the single league preliminary round of the 3rd World Cricket Cup for the
Blind on Tuesday.
In two other matches on the last day of the preliminary round, Australia
thrashed New Zealand by eight wickets while India also chalked up an
equally impressive 280 runs victory over Sri Lanka.
Pakistan finished on top of the points table with 24 points followed by
India (21). England and Australia stood third and fourth on points table
securing 17 and 16 points respectively.
Under the rules, Pakistan will clash with fourth-placed Australia in the
first semi-final at F-9 Park on Wednesday while in the second
semi-final, India will take on England at Pindi Cricket Stadium on
Thursday.
The final is scheduled for Saturday.
On Tuesday, Windies opted to bat first after winning the toss and hit
136 runs all-out in 33.5 overs in their match against Pakistan at PAF
Ground, E-9.
Pakistan got to the target of 137 runs in the 10th over without losing
any wicket. Aamer Ishfaq scored 74 and landed man-of-the-match award
while his fellow opener Muhammad Akram bagged 54 runs.
In the second match of the day, played at F-9 Park ground, Australia
thrashed New Zealand by an overwhelming margin of eight wickets. New
Zealand batted first and scored 104 off 40 overs for six wickets,
setting Australia a target of 105 runs.
In reply, Aussies achieved the target in 13th over. Man-of-the-match
Brett Wilson remained not out at 59. In the third match, India outplayed
Sri Lanka by 280 runs at Pindi Cricket Stadium.
Sri Lanka won the toss and invited Indians to bat first on which they
scored 412 for six wickets off 40 overs. Shekar Naik was declared the
man-of-the-match for scoring 151 runs. The Lankans fell an easy prey to
Indian bowlers and were dismissed for 132 for six wickets.
