ISLAMABAD—A five-member bench of the Supreme Court Tuesday adjourned the hearing of petitions regarding petroleum prices to third week of January after accepting a reques by the Attorney General for grant of more time to submit a comprehensive statement.
Attorney General Makhdoom Ali Khan appeared before the court on notice and told the bench the Federal Government was considering the matter regarding petroleum prices with special reference to downward trend of petroleum prices in the international market. The government is looking into the matter and it needs more time for this purpose, he said. The case was heard by the larger bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan and Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad. Responding to a question raised by the bench regarding role of Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC), the Attorney General apprised the bench that the Federal Government had already issued notification on March 15, 2006.
