Explosion kills 5 in Karachi

KARACHI—Five persons were killed and two injured in a gas cylinder explosion in densely-populated Sheeren Jinnah colony, Clifton on Tuesday evening, the police and hospital sources said. Doctors at Jinnah Hospital described the condition of injured as precarious.
According to the police, an oil tanker was being repaired at sprawling tanker parking area, where one of the mechanics mistakenly struck the CNG cylinder of the tanker with a hammer. As a result, the cylinder went off with a deafening voice, killing the four persons, including a driver and a mechanic on the spot.
However, some eyewitnesses said that the mechanics were trying to open a round metal part with a hammer, which all of a sudden went off. “The blast occurred all of a sudden. I was working nearby (the oil tanker. I saw my brothers, and some other persons lying on the ground. They were soaked in blood:”, said Aurangzeb an eyewitness, who lost his three brothers in blast.
