Anti Govt movement in final stage: Qazi
Bureau Report
PESHAWAR—Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal President Qazi Hussain Ahmed Monday
said that the anti government movement of the religious amalgamation is
in its final stage and President General Pervez Musharraf will have to
pack up and go home.
Making it absolute clear that there was no chance of fair, free and
transparent elections under President Musharraf, Qazi Hussain Ahmed
while addressing Peshawar High Court Bar Association said if the
elections are held under the present set up than through rigging the
present faces will once again occupy the assemblies. But if today people
will turn onto the streets then it will be successful for our
anti-government movement.
He said public has complete political awareness and they clearly know
that without uprooting the present government the situation will not
improve.
Qazi Hussain Ahmed went on to say that there was no supremacy of law,
judiciary was not free to practice and it has been gradually weakened.
Until and unless there is supremacy of law and judiciary is free the
country will face the present crisis. MMA president said the rising
influence of United States in Pakistan is not only dangerous for
Pakistan but for entire nation and we should end our ties with US
because it is need of the hour. He said US was in favour of Pakistan but
was achieving its nefarious designs for its interests.
Amir Jamaat-e-Islami said Army had only one role to play and that is to
protect the territorial borders of the country and it shouldn’t
interfere in national politics. He said President Musharraf promised to
doff uniform in December 2004 but he did not fulfilled his promise and
by doing this he disgraced the entire nation. Commenting on formation of
grand alliance, Qazi Hussain Ahmed said only PPPP was creating hurdles
in formation of grand alliance and when a final step in this regard was
to be taken at the residence of Chaudhry Nisar Ali, PPPP leader Amin
Fahim along with other PPPP leaders opposed the decision as they had not
consulted the matter with Benazir Bhutto and even today PPPP had not
mulled the matter. Qazi Hussain Ahmed said his party has decided not to
attend the sessions of the assemblies. We have also announced not to
accept the perks and privileges and I still stand by my words that we
should tender resignations from the assemblies.
He also said NWFP government was also not free because Inspector
Generals work on the directions of federal government and it was on
orders of President Musharraf that all religious audio cassettes were
collected from the market and religious people were arrested, whereas
the cassettes fomenting vulgarity and obscenity are being openly sold in
the market. Responding to queries from the lawyers, Qazi Hussain Ahmed
said we never supported formation of Taliban like government in the
country but we opposed the Taliban policy when they were in power in
Afghanistan. We made it clear then that women should not be barred from
education and religious programmes should be allowed to be aired on
media. But they neglected few good advices.
Central president of MMA Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that the
differences over resignation issue a big challenge for the religious
alliance to remain intact, however, he hoped to settle the issue during
next supreme council meeting. Briefing chatting with the newsmen at
Peshawar High Court Bar room after addressing PHCBA, Qazi said that the
Jamaat-e-Islami wanted the first resignation before starting mass
movement against Musharraf while Maulana Fazlur Rehman chief of Jamiat
Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) says first movement then resignations.
“Maulana Fazlur Rehman is stick to his stand of delaying resignation
from parliament, while I want first resignation and then movement,” the
JI chief said. However, he termed it a minor issue and hoped the MMA
would resolve it in Supreme Council’s next meeting. Qazi held the
Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) responsible creating
rifts in opposition political parties and hurdles in making a “Grand
Alliance” for ousting Musharraf and revival of real democracy and 1997
Constitution. |
