Durrani launches ‘Clean Pakistan Campaign’
Bureau Report

LAHORE—Federal Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani launched ‘Clean Pakistan Campaign’ in Allama Iqbal Town here on Sunday. Addressing on this occasion the Minister said, the campaign was being launched by National Volunteer Movement (NVM) in collaboration with federal and Punjab governments in union councils No. 103 and 104.
The Minister said that volunteers including students of University of Central Punjab (UCP), Punjab University (PU) and an NGO Akhuwat would create awareness among people about their social responsibilities. They would also participate in the cleanliness of roads, streets, parks and other public places of these areas to make them a model for other union councils of the country.
“The campaign is the first step towards cleaning our country on self help basis and this will bring a positive change in human behaviour in our society,” he observed. Those nations develop themselves at a fast pace which kee their roads and mohallahs clean, he said, adding that we must realise our responsibility in this regard and play an effective role in the country’s uplift.
In the past, areas of only privileged segments of the society were being kept clean, but the government wanted to keep clean not only the posh areas but also the street, road and mohallahs through promoting volunteerism under this movement.
The federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani has strongly refuted any deal or political alliance with Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP). While talking to journalists at the conclusion of clean Pakistan seminar held by National Volunteer Movement (NVM) on Sunday, he said that elections would be held at their proper schedule and would not be held prematurely due to any pressure.
Replying to a question, he said that the masses of Quetta have given their verdict in the favour of a strong Federation during the recent address of President Musharraf and have rejected the “Nationalist elements”.
Replying to another question about the unconstitutional stance of refusal of President’s address to  a Joint Assembly Session, he retorted against the equally unconstitutional acts being committed by others and advised the “disappointed ones” to seek law about the issue.
Replying to another question about caretaker government, he said that such a government would be formed in accordance with Constitution and the forthcoming general elections would be held according to schedule in which “we would politically strip our opponents apart in a befitting manner”.
Referring to PML (Q)’s political allies, he lauded the strong relations PML enjoyed with its allies and it would contest elections with the same allies.
Responding to the allegations about fabrication of a murder case against PPPP’s Asif Ali Zardari, he said that these allegations were being leveled against government by PPPP to gain cheap publicity and political leverage among masses, since government would never make any such move against Zardari or any other citizen.
Earlier while addressing the function, he said that the government endeavored to make Pakistan a state where all the basic rights and amenities should be available for all the masses, and vowed to enhance the scope of NVM. The Minister administered oath from the volunteers.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani has said that people of Balochistan have reposed full confidence in the leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf and acknowledged his steps for the development of their province.
Talking to newsmen after launching ‘Clean Pakistan Campaign’ here on Sunday, he said thousands of Balochis including women at Musharraf’s recent public meetings in Quetta had expressed their full support to Pakistan and they wanted it to be prosperous and strong. They altogether rejected all forces, which were by and large opposing the development process of the country, he added.
