22 wickets tumble in HBL, WAPDA Patrons Cricket Trophy tie

KARACHI—Sensational play saw as many as 22 wickets tumble on the opening day of the four-day quadrangular round of Patrons Cricket Trophy Championship match between Habib Bank Ltd (HBL) and WAPDA at NBP Sports Complex Ground on Sunday.
Test fast bowler Shabbir Ahmed captured five wickets for 32 runs in 12.1 overs and fellow pacer Kashif Raza got three for 52 as HBL inserted to bat first, were bowled out for 125 on a seaming and bouncy track in 31.1 overs. When play ended for the day bankers in their second innings were 80 for two wickets. Khaqan Arsal with 53 and Asim Kamal was 20 not out were at the crease.
Khaqan hit eight boundaries and a six in his 65-ball knock sofar while Asim cracked three 4s, having added 73 runs for the unbroken third wickets.
WAPDA responding to HBL’s modest total bundled out for 72 in their first outing. Fahad Masood caused the early damage and Shahid Afridi polished off the tail with three wickets each.
When HBL batted Shahid Afridi slammed brilliant 51 off 55 balls with four hits to the ropes and two over it. Aftab Khan made 24 with five 4s and Azhar Mahmood 14 not out were the other batsmen to reach double figure.
At one stage HBL were reeling at 38 for five but Afridi and Aftab Khan added 53 runs for sixth wicket.
