Want to live like Cameron Diaz? Then swap
homes
From Bob Tourtellotte
LOS ANGELES—He can’t guarantee a date with Cameron Diaz or Jude Law but
Ed Kushins can promise you will live like they do — in the movies,
anyway.
Kushins founded HomeExchange.com where members list their homes to swap
with other individuals for vacations, and his site is featured in new
movie “The Holiday,” a romantic comedy starring Diaz, Law, Kate Winslet
and Jack Black.
“You might not get Cameron Diaz...but you can take a look at any city in
any country and see homes every bit as nice as the one Cameron Diaz
lives in,” said Kushins. In “The Holiday,” which was written and
directed by Nancy Meyers (“Private Benjamin,” “Something’s Gotta Give”),
Diaz plays a Hollywood executive who learns her lover slept with another
woman. A continent and an ocean away in London, Kate Winslet is a writer
pining for a man she can never marry. Unlucky in love, both decide it is
time to take a vacation, so they go to HomeExchange.com and swap Diaz’s
luxurious spread in Los Angeles and Winslet’s country cottage in the
Cotswolds. Far away from home each falls in love.
Sound far fetched?
Kushins said it’s not.
He began his Los Angeles-based service as a paper directory in 1992 but
moved it onto the Web in the late 1990s and it has grown dramatically.
HomeExchange.com now boasts 14,000 members with homes in over 110
countries. The most listings are in the United States with 4,700, but
there are some 1,400 listings in France, 500 in England, nearly 1000 in
Australia, and the list goes on. |
