Afghan refugees return for registration
JALALABAD—A number of Afghan returnees want to cross back into Pakistan
to get registration cards, which will allow them stay for three years.
The refugees believe the Afghans, who failed to get the registration
cards, would not be allowed to travel Pakistan at the closure of the
scheme.
It merits a mention that a great number of refugees have homes on both
sides of the divide, and some of them have houses in Pakistan while
working in governmental and non-governmental organisations (NGO) in
Afghanistan. Saeed Ahmad, who is working in a printing press at Kabul
while his home is in Peshawar, said he would soon go to Peshawar to get
registration cards.
“I have heard that nobody can cross border without registration cards,
and police mishandle them if they succeed to cross the divide, ergo I
want to get the cards”, he said. He said that he was arrested by the
police in Sialkot city of the Punjab province for not holding
registration cards.”
“An Afghan elder in a Kacha Garhi camp has promised providing me card
for Rs 2,000.” A resident of Paghman in Kabul, currently abiding in
Jalalabad, said his father-in-law home was in Peshawar. He said: “To
avoid mishandling by the police, I have got registration card”, he
added.
By the same token, hundreds other Afghans cross border to get
registration cards.—SANA
