Multi-storey buildings to be constructed in Capital: Safwan
ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Housing and Works Syed Safwanullah has
said that government is in the process of constructing multi-storey
buildings in the Federal Capital to facilitate government employees.
He was talking with APP here on Sunday the minister said now onwards it
has been proposed that instead of erecting horizontal buildings a trend
of multi-storey buildings will be promoted.
It will not only accommodate government employees especially those
belonging to low income group but also host of other facilities, he
added.
The minister said different construction companies including Chinese
International Industrial and Commerce Company (CIIC) have responded
positively to construct these housing units.
Safwan said all the new buildings will be constructed according to
latest building codes and techniques.
To a question about the current policy of allotment ofresidential places
he said policy for allotment of accommodation to government employees
requires a shift in the face of growing demand for residential places.
“I have already made it clear in the Parliament that due to multifarious
issues and tremendous increase in the number of government employees the
existing policy may be changed,” the minister added.
He said the ministry has floated the proposal of inclusion of government
employees rental charges in their salary to further make the process
easier for them. The proposal has been submitted with Finance Division,
he added.
“About 10,000 to 15,000 housing units will be soon constructed in the
Capital on private-public partnership basis after sorting out
modalities,” the minister added.
Like 1,000 residential housing units constructed in G 11/4 Sector these
new accommodation places will be given on ownership basis, the minister
said.
Replying to a question about the recent construction boom in the Capital
the minister said it is a good omen that different local and foreign
companies are investing on various projects.
He said “It will encourage latest construction techniques besides
providing job opportunities to a large number of skilled people.”—APP |
