PML observes Int’l Human Rights Day

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Muslim League observed Sunday International Human Rights Day with the determination to continue its efforts in order to ensure people’s rights at every level.
Secretary General Pakistan Muslim League Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, addressing the function here at PML House, said that the present government has taken a number of steps to ensure and protect the rights of people, particularly the women.
He said that Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah laid the foundation for protection of human rights in the party which has been followed by all the leaders.
Senator Mushahid said that the struggle of PML is based on launching war against oppression and help the oppressed class. He said that Pakistan Muslim League extended its full help and support to the right of self-determination of the Kashmiris.
The PML Secretary General said that due to lack of implementation in the laws in the past, people were not given their rights. In the past due to VIP culture the rich people were above the law and the poor have to comply with the rules and regulations.
Mushahid said that PML government ensured implementation on the laws so that every person should be equally responsible.
Lauding the efforts of President General Pervez Muharraf, he said that credit goes to the President for implementing the laws in the country which ensured the rights of everyone.
He said the recently adopted Women Protection Bill was a step to ensure the rights of women in the country. Senator Mushahid criticized the double standard of the MMA as they are supporting Hisba bill in the NWFP Assembly, while they are not accepting the decision of majority in the National Assembly on the Women Protection Bill.
Mushahid said that supremacy of minority in the democratic process will not be acceptable. Senator S.M Zafar, a leading human rights activist, speaking on the occasion, said if “we follow the Holy Quran and Sunnah in letter and spirit, there will be no violation of human rights”.
He said that Islam has ensured human rights at every stage.
