Elimination of corruption needs joint efforts: Speaker NA

RAWALPINDI—Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain has said that eliminating corruption from society needs concentrated efforts from all walks of life. He said that corruption cannot be controlled through punitive action alone.
He was speaking at a declamation contest on, “Anti-Corruption theme”, organized by National Accountability Bureau in connection of Anti-Corruption Day at Rawalpindi Medical College here on Saturday. Director General, NAB Rawalpindi, Rear Admiral Pervaiz Asghar, officials, teachers and large numbers of students were present on the occasion.
He said corruption is a social evil which must be eliminated with iron hands, adding corruption is a door through which all sin enters and corrupts the society . The speaker said that corruption has weakened the very foundation of the country as well as social and moral values. He said reformation starts at the individual level and every body would have to contribute to purge all social evils. He said that root causes of corruption and related problems have to be addressed along with mobilization of the society while using the tools of prevention and awareness. He said government’s efforts to introduce a system of check and balance cannot yield fruit unless it receives public backing and support. He called on the people to elect honest and pious people in the forthcoming elections to check evil tendencies at the top level.
He stressed the need of more reformation and sincere efforts at all levels to make Pakistan a citadel of Islam and a prosperous country. After the declamation contest, a vigilance walk was also held from Rawalpindi Medical to Liaqat Bagh in which large number of people and students participated. Participants of the walk were carrying placards inscribed with slogan such as “Crush Corruption”, “Say No to Corruption”.
Chaudhry Amir Hussain also distributed certificates among winning debaters and appreciated patriotism, honesty and skills of the students.
