Soomro calls for giving priority to employees welfare

ISLAMABAD—Chairman Senate, Mohammedmian Soomro has underlined the need for giving priority to the welfare of the employees to mitigate their difficulties so that they may work with more devotion and dedication.
He made these observations while presiding over the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Senate Secretariat Employees Welfare Fund here today. The Senate Chairman appreciated the interest shown by Senator Prof. Khursheed Ahmed and other Members of the Committee in the welfare of the low paid employees and for guidance, activation,motivation and promotion of the Fund. He said that the Secretariat wouldcontinue to accord priority to promoting the schemes aimed at weal and welfare of employees’.
It was suggested that in order to generate income, major portion of thefund may be invested in NIT units. Moreover, as the welfare fund is a charitable fund meant to assist the low paid employees of the Secretariat, the CBR may be approached for giving exemption to donationsreceived in the fund from Income Tax.
The Committee considered the progress report of the fund and accordedapproval to grant of financial assistance to deserving employees on case to case basis on various grounds including death of family members, prolonged illness of members of their family and marriage of theirchildren.
The meeting was attended, besides the Chairman of the Executive Committee Employees Welfare Fund, Mr. Mohammedmian Soomro by Senators Prof. Khursheed Ahmed, Muhammad Talha Mahmood and the Secretary Senate, Raja Muhammad Amin.
