EC exempts sale tax on import of buses

ISLAMABAD—The Economic Council has exempted sale tax on the import of buses on the direction of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, which will help and give relief to a common person.
This was stated by Nasir Khan, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerceand Industry (ICCI) while addressing members of transport subcommittee in Chamber House on Friday. He said that due non-availability of public transport about 2 lakhpeople travel in trouble daily particularly female college students, working ladies and persons working in the office are facing great hardships. Waran transport had given relief to the public and due to reasons not known it has stopped.
Nasir Khan further said that due to non-availability of buses, cars andwagons have increased due to which the traffic jam problems have arisen public prefer to before journeys in buses and the police also feel easyin traffic management. In Karachi CNG buses have been allowed. This is a successful experiment and helped in environmental pollution control. In India they have allowed CNG buses in Delhi and no petrol/diesel is allowed. On the analogy of this experiment CNG buses can also be allowed in Rawalpindi - Islamabad. He further said that if buses are allowed on various routes public and office going people will prefer to use public transport. He welcomed decision of exemption of duty on CNG buses and taxies.—Online
