By Hina Kiyani

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Science and TechnologyChaudhry Nouraiz Shakoor said that the Women Protection Bill did not contain anything contrary to the tenets of Islam. Rather it upholds the golden principles of Islam.
The Minister in a statement on Thursday said that this Bill infact would effectively counter the Western propaganda against Islam. Women of the country would now get full respect as granted to them by Islam.
He said “as devout Muslims, we cannot even think of taking any stepprohibited by Islam. Islam constitutes our faith and we are even ready to lay down our lives to uphold its golden principles”.
He said the enemies of Islam were falsely saying that Islam had denied rights to women. This is completely false and it exposes their poor knowledge of Islam. Such elements had misinterpreted Islam. Thisis regrettable.
The minister said these people had to be exposed and the WomenProtection Bill would effectively do it.
He said President General Pervez Musharraf had worked very hard torestore the rights of women. The Women Protection Bill had been inducted for this purpose.
Nouraiz Shakoor said women were working in all walks of life. They were holding portfolios in the Federal Cabinet, serving in the armed forces and other important national sectors. This goes to prove thewomen could be entrusted with important work. They have worked to thesatisfaction of the country and would also do it in the future as well.
He said women of Pakistan had full confidence in the leadership of President Pervez Musharraf because they knew he would always courageously defend the cause of people of Pakistan.
