Senate body concerned over security official’s attitude

ISLAMABAD—Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges Friday
admitted a previllage motion taking strong note of the attitude of the
security official for stopping an Senator at the gate of the Parliament
building.
The committee, which met in the Parliament House under the Chairmanship
of Senator Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, termed it a serious matter,
admitted the privilege motion of the member and decided to discuss the
issue in the next meeting of the committee.
Senator Ms Saadia Abbasi, at the very outset invited the attention ofthe
chairman and the Members of the Committee that she was stopped at the
gate of the Parliament Building this morning by the security official
despite the fact that the card/sticker issued by the Senate Secretariat
was duly displayed on the car.
She said that it was a deliberate attempt to harass her that the matter
should not go unnoticed and the official responsible should be taken to
task.
Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Sher Afgan Khan Niazi
agreed with the mover and requested the Chair to admit the privilege
motion and summon the concerned official.
The Chairman of the Committee Senator Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadistated
that the Parliamentarians, irrespective of their party affiliation
deserve respect as they work for the glory of the House and integrity
and well being of the country. He assured the Committee that the matter
would be taken up in the next meeting of the Committee.
The Committee, in its today’s meeting deliberated in detail on various
amendments proposed in the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in
the Senate, 1988 and unanimously approved some amendments for
incorporation in the existing rules. The Chairman of the Committee
lauded the contribution of the Members inputting forward various
proposals aimed at smooth functioning of the Upper House.
The meeting was attended, besides the Chairman of the Committee, Senator
Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr.
Sher Afgan Khan Niazi by Senators S.M. Zafar, Ms Saadia Abbasi, Naeem
Hussain Chattha, Ch. Muhammad Anwar Bhinder, RAza Muhammad Raza, Kamran
Murtaza and Dr. Muhammad Ismail Buledi. |
