MMA puts
resignations on back burner
Hafiz Hussain sacked
as Deputy SG
ISLAMABAD—The meeting of Supreme Council of Muttahida Majlis-e- Amal (MMA)
has been concluded on Thursday without any settlement of differences
within the ranks of the alliance over resignations from the parliament.
In another twist, JUI (F) issued show cause notice to the Hafiz Hussain
Ahmad over the tendering his resignation ahead of the party decision and
was also removed from the slot of the Deputy Secretary General of MMA.
The component parties of the alliance failed to reach a consensus,
however Deputy Parliamentary leader of the MMA, Hafiz Hussain said that
a meeting of central Supreme Council will be held after Eid in which the
resignation issue will be deliberated again. Maulana Fazlur Rehman is
believed to have told the meeting his party’s Majlis-e-Shura
(consultative body) has quite clearly opted against offering
resignations from the assemblies. The leaders of Jamaat Islami however
argued in favor of quitting the assemblies. Any decision on the issue
will be taken in the Supreme Council after Eid. Deputy Secretary MMA
Hafiz Hussain Ahmad has said that MMA is a blessing and national will
not forgive the people who want to create a rift in the ranks of the
religious amalgamation. “We have handed over our resignations to party
leadership and it is up to it to use it at proper time,” he said this
while addressing a parliamentary party meeting of MMA here on Thursday.
He said he strictly follows the discipline guidelines set by the party
leadership urging other leaders to adhere to party discipline at all
costs. He expressed his desire to take entire opposition alongside but
made it clear he will never want to loose his friends in an attempt to
accompany the other opposition parties. Grand Alliance, no doubt is a
good thing but it depends on Mian Nawaz Sharif when he will get approval
of these demands from ARD. Ch Shujaat Hussain, President Pakistan Muslim
League has said that suggestions proposed by Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA)
regarding Women Protection Bill (WPB) were not incorporated owing to
some technical reasons and if something is missing it would be included
in the new bill. Talking to a private TV station, Ch Shujaat Hussain has
said that consultations were made on WPB with religious scholars as well
as MMA leaders Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman.
Asked about objections raised by a section of religious scholars on WPB,
Ch Shujaat Hussain said that the clauses which were missing in the old
bill would be incorporated in the new bill, but categorically added that
no law against Quran and Sunnah would be passed.
The Federal Law Minister Wasi Zafar has lauded the MMA decision of not
tendering their resignations as good omen for democratic norms in the
Country. While expressing his opinions in a private TV Channel on
Thursday, he said that this step would end the former tradition of
terminating a government before its legal term, and said that a movement
could only be initiated over an issue, about which no excuse would ever
be given.—Online |
