CAS Junior Open Squash Championship begins
in City
PESHAWAR—Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Open Junior Squash Championship
got under way here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex with 225 budding
youngsters vie for the top honor in all five categories.
The qualifying rounds of the five different events comprising Under-11,
Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 played on the opening day
while the main round of the all the five categories will start from
December 9.
Four players each will qualify to the main round of 16 players in each
category as 13 matches were decided in the qualifying rounds of all five
categories.
Nasir Iqbal had the honor of winning Under-11 category title last year,
Danish Atlas was the winner of the Under-13 category, followed by Farhan
Zaman, who won the title in Under-15 category, Waqar Mehboob grabbed the
title in Under-17 category and Bilal Zaman was the winner in the
Under-19 category).
The final and prize distribution ceremony will be held on December 12,
2006. Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Tanveer Mehmood Ahmad
will grace the occasion as chief guest and will give away prizes to the
winners and runners-up. The results of the opening day matches are as
under.
Under-11: Fahim Gul defeated Kashif Ahmed by 9-0 and 9-0, followed by
Muhammad Adil who beat Mehmoob Khan by 9-1 and 9-1 and Zeeshan Ahmed
beat Adnan by 9-0 and 9-2.
Under-13: It was tough battle witnessed in the Under-13 category besides
some one sided matches. Muhammad Waseem shocked promising Shah Zaib in
three sets. The score was 9-4, 8-10 and 9-2. Both Waseem and Shah Zaib
exhibited excellent display witnessed by capacity crowd present on this
occasion. Winning the first set by 9-4, Waseem failed to click in the
second set, which was tied at 6-6, 7-7, 8-8 and won by Shah Zaib by
8-10. Waseem controlled the whole trend in the last and decisive set by
giving no time to Shah Zaib to settle down. The score was 9-2. Faraz
Khan beat Mohsin by 9-0, 9-0, Ali Bokhari beat Usman Ahmed by 9-2, 10-9
in the other matches of the Under-13 category.—Online |
