NA body advises CDA to review traffic signal system

ISLAMABAD—National Assembly standing committee on Communication has
criticized the signal system of Islamabad and advised Capital
Development Authority to review the matter on the basis of traffic count
and public convenience and advised NHA to strictly monitor the weights
of vehicles on as many points as possible.
The directions were issued in the meeting of the NA Standing Committee
on Communication held here in the Parliament House on Thursday. Brig.
(r) Zulfiqar Ahmad Dhillon chaired the meeting. The committee briefed
about the performances and improvements made in the Motorways and
Highways police during year 200-2006, expansion plan/training during the
year 2005-2006 to different categories of the Motorway police and any
other item.
Standing Committee on Communication has also directed the Federal and
Provincial government to coordinate in order to have a uniform criteria
for driving licenses and fitness certificates. The committee appreciated
the well-organized and disciplined performance of Motorways and Highways
Police and advised to send Police Officer to France and Germany for
practices in order to improve their efficiency.
The committee also advised NHA to strictly monitor the weights of
vehicles on as many points as possible.
The committee advised that the service of help line provided on
Motorways and Highways should be made charge free.
Similarly, the Committee appreciated the efforts made by motorways and
highway police in recovery of missing/ lost children and observed that a
national data base may be created for the purpose. The meeting was

Ghulam Hyder Samejo, Mrs. Afsar Begum, Maulana Gohar Shah, Shahid
