Re-polling of SCBA to be held on 18th

ISLAMABAD—Re-polling of annual elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) will be held on December 18 for 2006-07 and more than 1600 voters (Advocates of the Supreme Court) from all over the country will exercise their right of vote to elect president and other office bearers of the association.
According to the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) office Islamabad, eight polling stations will be established at Bar Rooms of the Association located in the Supreme Court Building Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta besides Bar Rooms of the High Court Bar Associations at Bahawalpur, Multan and Abbottabad as per decision of the Executive Committee of the Council. The polling will begin from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Chairman Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council,Syed Qalb-e-Hassan will be the Returning Officer for the elections being held according to the decision of the PBC after the orders issued by the Supreme Court. Vice Chairmen of the Provincial Bar Councils at ProvincialCapitals and Presidents of High Court Bar Associations at Benches of the High Courts Bahawalpur, Multan and Abbottabad will perform as Presiding Officers at their respective stations.
The list of voters as well as the list of candidates will remain unchanged during the re-polling process. The President of the Association will be elected from the province of Sindh first time after the introduction of the rotation system for this post.
Four vice presidents one from each province, Secretary and Finance Secretary besides 11 members of the Executive Committee will be elected from all the four provinces two from each province and remaining three on merit basis. Sardar Muhammad Ghazi has already been declared elected (unopposed) Additional Secretary of the Association.
According to the earlier final list, three candidates (All from the province of Sindh) Ch.Muhammad Jameel, Muneer A.Malik and Raja Haq Nawaz Khan are contesting for the office of the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). Two candidates each from all the four provinces Imran-ul-Haq Khan and Sheikh Gholam Ahmed (Baluchistan), Abdul Latif Yousafzai and M.Saeed Akhtar Khan (NWFP), Anwar Hamid Sahibzada and Nawab Saeed Ullah Khan (Punjab) and Khawaja Naveed Ahmed and Sheikh Faqir Muhammad Javaid (Sindh) are contesting for the office of Vice President of the Association. One from each province will be elected as per Rule of the Association. Two candidates Mian Muhammad Waheed Akhtar and Zulfiqar Ali Bokhari Syed are contesting for the post of Secretary of the Association and one of them will be elected from all over the country.
Two candidates Muhammad Zaman Bhatti and Tariq Bilal are contesting for the post of Finance Secretary and one of them will be elected for this office. A total 27 candidates 16 from Punjab, 4 from Sindh, 4 from NWFP and three candidates from Baluchistan are contesting for the membership of the Executive Committee of the Association. According to the rules of the Association two members each of the Executive Committee will be elected from all the four provinces and remaining three will be declared elected on merit.
