NAB recovers Rs 200b from corrupt politicians, bureaucrats: DG NAB

ISLAMABAD—National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has so far collected Rs.
200 billion from the corrupt politicians and bureaucrats, said DG NAB.
Speaking at a press conference here at the National Accountability
Bureau headquarters on Thursday, the DG NAB, Mohsin Khan said that laws
pertaining to money laundering were being reviewed. He said that
corruption was an international issue and Corruption Day would be
observed on December 9 across the country.
He said that work across the world was underway to check corruption and
changes were rapidly taking place. He said that media could play vital
role in controlling corruption.
Mohsin Khan said that 30 institutions and 60 laws had been functioning
to eliminate the menace from the society. He said that Rs. 1 million
would be granted to the citizen as a reward who point out corrupt
officer in the National Accountability Bureau. He underlined the need
for addressing root causes of corruption. The world he said was focusing
on the issue.
The DG NAB said that a programme in connection with the Corruption Day
would be held at national library on December 9 with President Musharraf
in the chair. Besides, a walk would be held from convention centre chowk
to parliament house and radio and TV channels would telecast special
marathon programmes. He said that awareness would be created at school
level. Mohsin Khan said that walks would also be held in Sindh and NWFP
where Governors would lead the walks. The CDA he said would display
banners in the federal capital. He said that the affectees of the
cooperative housing society would be compensated that day. |
