Protest drive without resignations an option: Fazl

ISLAMABAD—MMA General Secretary Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said they are considering to launch movement against the government without tendering resignations.
“We have to see if the act of resignations will benefit dictatorship or democracy. We all are agreed on the existence and fortification of MMA. We are considering to kick of campaign against the government without tendering resignations”, he said this while talking to a group of journalists after party Majlis-e-Shoora meeting here Tuesday.
“ We are considering the matter of collective resignation in the meeting of Majlis-e-Shoora. All the recommendations will be presented in the meeting of MMA parliamentary party, he said. The meeting is in progress. The linkage between collective resignations with parliamentary democratic norms is being considered seriously, he added.
He alleged policies and agenda being pursued by General Musharraf has met absolute failure General Musharraf has failed to revive democracy in the country, he added. MMA is united on one point that president Musharraf himself is extremist, he said adding how can he be a moderate who is wearing uniform. Who will repose confidence on the person who does not doff uniform and bring the dictatorship to end.
Hafiz Hussain Ahmad and Noor Ahmad have clarified about their resignations that they will not violate party decisions, he indicated. MMA President, Qazi Hussein Ahmad has said that decision to resign from the National Assembly is irreversible, adding that strategy on resignations will be evolved in the MMA Supreme Council meeting on December 6-7. In an interview with a private TV channel he said there is no rift in the MMA over the resignations issue and he has cordial relations with Maulana Fazalur Rehman.
To a question he said that this is not mere an issue of bill, adding President Pervez Musharraf had committed that he should have been a civilian President after December 31, 2004 but he could not honour his promise. Similarly, Qazi said Musharraf waged a formal war against tribes in Waziristan and launched attacks on Bajaur, destroying a madrassah, a mosque and killing 80 people.
