NVM to launch Clean Pakistan Drive from 10th: Durrani

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani Tuesday said the National Volunteers Movement (NVM) would launch ‘Clean Pakistan Drive’ on December 10 from Lahore and it would be extended later to all parts of the country.
“The NVM would also launch a Youth Parliament in collaboration with Youth Ministry and eminent youngsters would be a part of the youth body,” the NVM Chairman told the media.
Earlier, the Minister inaugurated an exhibition of photographs of volunteers who rendered valuable services in the aftermath of the October 8 earthquake, a train accident and floods in NWFP.
Besides volunteers and people from all walks of life, Deputy Chairman NVM Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Director General NVM Khalid Masood Chaudhry, Director NVM Jamil Ahmed and representatives from UNDP, UNV, VSO, NCHD were also present.
He said voluntarism is a noble service and the NVM has mobilised thousands of youngsters who are working for well-being of the mankind. “Around 800 motivated volunteers are being trained to launch Clean Pakistan Drive from two union councils of Lahore from December 10. We have taken Punjab Government on board and this drive would later be expanded to all districts in next six months time”, said the Minister.
He said that motivated volunteers, especially youth, would carry out the massive cleansing drive. NVM was collaborating with national and international voluntary organizations and most voluntary work was being done quietly, he pointed out.
“Media is involved when it is necessary as the sacred task of voluntarism also needs promotion and projection. National media is very cooperative and this gigantic duty is flowering day-by-day”, said the chairman NVM. The Minister said the NVM would materialize the dream of President Pervez Musharraf by ensuring the skill development of youth.
“We would ensure to bring the standard of our youth at par with those of developed countries. In this endeavor, UNDP, VSO, and other national NGOs are collaborating with the NVM”, he said. Deputy Chairman Barrister Muhammad Ali saif said the NVM is aimed at promoting the precious services of young volunteers and the exhibition was a part of recognizing the voluntary activities rendered by national and international volunteers in calamity situations.
A large number of Islamabadites, especially women and children, inspected the exhibition with enthusiasm.
