JUI (F) in no hurry over resignations

ISLAMABAD—Jamiat Ulema Islam (F) has divided into two groups as Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani refused to resign from the assemblies following the cracks appeared in Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) after passing of Women Protection Bill by Parliament and signature of President General Pervez Musharraf.
A meeting of Advisory Council of Jamiat Ulema Islam (F) was held here on Monday with Maulana Fazlur Rehman in the chair to discuss the contemporary domestic political milieu after the passing of WPB.
According to sources, Maulana Sherani was in favour of not resigning from assemblies without presenting party point of view and recommendations over the bill. Maulana Sherani, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, Maulana Gul Naseeb, and Maulana Abdullah supported Maulana Fazlur Rehman over this issue.
Mufti Abd-us-Sattar, Qari Sohail Abbasi and Noor Ahmad supported Qazi Hussain what they termed it as a religious issue for resignation from the assemblies.
Reliable source said that Qazi Hussain Ahmad stressed the party members to give tough time to government and not to attend assemblies session. MMA central leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said religious alliance will counter every conspiracy in and outside parliament to turn the country into secular state.
He said this while addressing meeting of central Shura of his faction of Jamiat ulema Islam on the first day here Monday. A 2-day JUI-F Majlis-e-Shoora meeting was held here in Jamia Masjid Farooq Azam Al Marakaz Islami I-10. Maulana Fazlur Rehman presided over the meeting.
JUI-F secretary general Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri apprised Maulana Fazlur Rehman of the agenda items of the meeting.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said country is in grip of dictatorship at present. Every conspiracy to convert the country into secular state will be faced with full force in and outside parliament. The pace of efforts for uniting opposition parties on one platform will be accelerated.
Government has become habitual of taking decisions with closed eyes, he said adding government will have to be weaned away from this habit. Government has touched other issues rather than taking steps for enforcement of Islamic order to divert the attention of masses from real issues. The religious and political parties will have to come forward to play their respective role in the prevailing alarming situation, he urged.
Rulers are out to distort the constitution, he alleged. We will foil every attempt to extract its soul from the constitution, he announced.
