By Saad Saud

ISLAMABAD—Judge of Supreme Court,Justice Javed Iqbal on Monday said that the district judiciary was the backbone of any society, which could collapse if fair dispensation of justice was not ensured. “ Fair administration of justice is absolutely necessary for our survival as a civilized society and according to the Islamic jurisprisdence, nothing can be more rewarding than dispensing justice and you are fortunate enough to be the members of subrodinate judiciary, from where you can reach to the High Court and Apex Court by dint of your sheer devotion, dedication and honesty and integrity”, he observed. According to a press release of Federal Judicial Academy,Justice Javed Iqbal was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of eight week pre-service training course for the newly appointed Civil Judges-cum- Judicial Magistrates from the Punjab and Balochistan here at the Federal Judicial Academy, Islamabad.
He said there is a need for restoring public confidence in the judiciary and that is possible by providing easy and speedy justice to the litigant public and for that district judiciary, of which young and dynamic judicial officers have become members, can play a pivotal role.
He mainained that one factor that can affect the image and erode the faith of a common man in judiciary is delay in disposal of cases. “If we cannot enhance the image which we have inherited, it is our duty and responsibility to at least ensure that it is maintained and no dent is created in it. We cannot always live on our past glory. The people of this country have great trust and faith on the judiciary. That faith is our strength. It has to be maintained at every cost,he added.
“The common man considers the judiciary as “the ultimate guardian of his rights and liberties. No institution can take for granted the respect of the community. It has high expectations and constantly demands proof of its utility. If problem of delay is not tackled now, it can shake people’s faith” he added.
Earlier on the occasion, Mr. Mozzam Hayat, DG of the Acdaemy in his welcome address said: It is necessary to re-evaluate the functioning of the judiciary and to bring about a qualitative change in the justice delivery system so as to bring it in tune with the hopes and aspirations of the people. “The judiciary has to devise new methods, forge new tools and innovate new strategies for the purpose of reaching social justice to the common man. The FJA is trying its utmost to impart such a training to the young judicail officers as to make them as ‘best of the best’, able-bodied and well-rounded judicial officers for the district judiciary, “ he observed
A total of 32 trainee judges are participating in the training course, out of which all the seven from Balochistan are females and four from the province of Punjab are female judicial officers.
