NA body on Education meets

ISLAMABAD—National Assembly Standing Committee on Education has decided
to table privilege motion in next session of National Assembly against
Punjab Government and Governor Punjab Khalid Maqboolfor not providing
details regarding corruption charges on Vice
Chancellor of Islamia University.
The committee, which met here at Parliament house on Saturday under the
chairmanship of Begum Tehmina Dasti Member National Assembly to discuss
the Islamabad Capital Territory Private Educational Institutions
Regulation and Promotion ordinance 2006 also decided to table report in
National Assembly for non cooperation of Punjab Government and
GovernorPunjab with committee.
The committee would table the detail report regarding involvement ofVice
Chancellor of Islamia University in corruption in next session of the
National Assembly.
Committee members expressed annoyance over non-cooperation of Punjab
Government and Governor Punjab Khalid Maqbool with committee in
corruption case of Vice Chancellor Islamia University, as several
letters has been sent to Punjab Government in this regard.
The committee members recommended the Speaker National AssemblyChaudhry
Amir Hussain to not give such type of case, which is related to
provinces. During the meeting, various suggestion were given by the
members to modify the proposed Regulation and Promotion ordinance 2006
as it is a sensitive matter and could bring changes in the private
educational institutes of Islamabad.
Following the suggestion of committee members, Chairperson of the
committee Begum Tehmina Dasti decided to discuss the bill in next
committee meeting. State Education Minister Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli while
expressing herviews on the bill said that the basic reason behind the
bill to register all the educational institutes in Federal capital.
According to bill, same standard would be set for all the
privateeducational institutions, whereas the authority, which is
regulating the private educational institutes, would have no right to
fix the fees, she added.
Earlier, Chairman Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary
Education(FBISE) Muhammad Sharif Shamashad briefed the committee in
detail about the pros and cons of the bill. He informed that almost
1,11,000 students are studying in 643 private schools in Federal Capital
and the motive behind moving the bill was to streamline the existing
private schools of Federal Capital.
He said that Government is sincerely working to improve the
infrastructure and educational system of the government school. |
