No early
elections, says Premier

PESHAWAR—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Friday held out categorical
assurance that the general elections would be held on time next year and
guaranteed smooth sailing of the balloting in a fair, free and
transparent fashion in the country.
Addressing a meeting of the PML parliamentarians, district nazimeen,
provincial leaders of the Muslim league and office bearers here at
Governor House, Prime Minister said that for the first to time in the
history of the country the present assemblies would complete their
tenure as elections would be held on time next year.
He stressed the need for coherence in the ranks of PML and unity with
the allied parties so that it could emerge triumphant in the next
elections. The PML he added would go to the people on the basis of its
performance in the government. “PML and its allied parties will fully
participate in the next general elections with its agenda,” he
maintained.
Shaukat Aziz told the gathering that all decisions were being made with
consultation and mutual understanding with a view to pushing the
political agenda of the party towards success in the election. “Our
contacts with other political parties should not be misconstrued and it
does not necessarily mean that the PML would enter into any alliance
with them in the coming polls,” he clarified. “The PML being the
founding party of the country has its own identity which always worked
for the progress and prosperity of the country .”
The PML and its allied parties’candidates in the next elections would go
to the electorates with their head high for seeking their votes. The PML
leaders and workers should convert the progress made by the present
government in to increasing vote bank of the party.
The performance of PML government under the dynamic leadership of
President Musharraf is continuing unabated and has achieved great
laurels in the field of development which has no precedence in the past.
Billion rupees mega projects are under way in the country which on
completion would give boost to the socio economic life of the down
trodden masses and referred to some of gigantic projects like Lowari
tunnel, Gomal zam Dam and Peshawar Islamabad motorway projects in the
frontier province.Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that Pakistan
Muslim League can take justifiable pride and satisfaction over the fact
that the Women Protection Bill, after its assent by President General
Pervez Musharraf, has become law of land.
The Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz made these observations while talking a
group of parliamentarians comprising Federal Minister for KANA Maj (Retd)
Tahir Iqbal, Minister of State for Housing Sardar Asif Nakai, MNA Ch.
Wajahat Hussain and Minister of State for Interior Mr Zafar Waraich, who
called on him at the PM’s House on Friday.
The Prime Minister said that the PML’s allies in the governing coalition
also played a vital role in the passage of the Bill in the Parliament
and can take credit for its becoming a law.
