Islamabad, Kabul to strengthen co-op in health sector

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to further strengthen their cooperation in the health sector and joint efforts for the elimination of cross border diseases.
Addressing a joint press conference here Friday after a meeting mainly focusing on polio, the Health Ministers of Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to setup five checkpoints for the prevention of cross border diseases including polio with the cooperation of World Health Organization (WHO).
The Federal Minister Muhammad Naseer Khan on the occasion said that joint endeavors would be made to strength cooperation in health sector between the two countries as well as elimination of crippling disease of polio from both the countries.
The Minister underlined that under the Peace Health Mission besides providing cooperation in different areas of health, Jinnah Hospital would be setup in Kabul, adding that 25 per cent work of Eye Hospital hasbeen completed. Health Ministers of Pakistan and Afghanistan would participate in the anti polio campaign in each other countries, he added.
Afghan Health Minister, Syed Amin Fatmi on the occasion while expressing his immense gratitude over unprecedented help of Pakistan to Afghan refugees living in the country, said that stable Afghanistan is not only in the interest of Pakistan but for the entire region.
Syed Amin Fatmi said that Afghanistan’s needs Pakistan help for the elimination of poverty and in education sector as well as in the health sector. Besides difficult situation in the country, the anti polio campaign is moving in the right direction and only 29 polio cases were reported in this year till now, he added.
