NVM playing key role in promotion of volunteerism: Sumaira

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Women Development and Youth Affairs Sumaira Malik on Thursday said that National Volunteers Movement (NVM) has played key role in promotion of the spirit of volunteerism and trained youth to meet emergency situations.
She was addressing at the certificate distribution ceremony at the conclusion of three-day training course for women volunteers at NVM Headquarters.
She said the President General Pervez Musharraf has provided the youth a new hope and direction by presenting the enlightened moderation theory. “The Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is providing opportunities to the youth and these initiatives have enabled the energetic youth to become a forefront force of the rebuilding process,” said Sumaira Malik.
History has shown time and again that human will power can overcome the tallest obstacles. The countless volunteers who acted in the wake of the earthquake have reconfirmed this age-old truth, she added. “The youth have played a pivotal role in the rehabilitation and reconstruction process of the quake-hit people and areas and the presence of youth has made the NVM sustainable and vigorous,” she added.
NVM, she added was one example of the immense contributions made by countless volunteers who have been tirelessly serving in the earthquake victims since 8 October,last year. They have shown the very best of humanity - ordinary people offering extra-ordinary help, assistance and compassion, she continued. Sumaira Malik said it is true that the worst things that happen to us often bring out the best we have in us.
Speaking about passage of Women Protection Bill she said it was due to the efforts of President General President Musharraf and PML leadership that the bill has been passed. She said the bill has restored the respect and honour of the women. Sumaira Malik said Pakistan is an Islamic country, therefore, no one can dare to do any legislation against Quran and Sunnah.
Minister for Women Development Sumaira Malik said there was lot of protection for women in Islam and it gave them their due rights, dignity and respect.
She said the passage of the bill was a success of the moderate voices in national assembly and said it would further strengthen country’s political institutions. She told the participants of the course that the government has launched many programmes for empowerment of the women.She said that women political schools were playing important role in empowerment of women councilors at grassroots level.
