ECO convenes 2nd session today

LAHORE—The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is to convene its
second session tomorrow (Wednesday) in the Provincial capitol of Lahore,
and would be presided over by federal minister for Industries and
Production, Jehangir Khan Tareen.
A high-ranking group of analysts and experts from various countries
gathered at the local hotel to review the agenda for the forthcoming
meeting of ministers of the ECO group.
Addressing the opening session of the two day meeting of the experts
secretary general ECO, Mustafa Demerzon expressed his full assurance
about the fact that it would be able to review and shape the final
strategy for the forthcoming ECO summit.
The Secretary General also expressed a possibility of discussing such
issues as draft action plans regarding aims, transfer of technology,
intellectual and property rights, privatization and other matters.
He expressed his deep satisfaction over the fact that recent
privatization has brought a healthy change in the economic and
developmental environment, while ten countries of South-East Asia and
CAS (Central Asian States) held their meetings in Tehran and Istanbul
during past three years.
He said that a strategy for the betterment of the region has been
evolved and would be comprehensively reviewed in the forthcoming
meeting. Addressing the meeting, the Federal secretary for Industries
and Production Anwar Khawaja lauded ECO for economic and developmental
regeneration of 38 crore masses of the region, and the fact that it’s
membership is based on almost entire Islamic Ummah.
He said that it was imperative for the Organization to work zealously
for achievement of targets set by its vision 2015 program, in order to
ameliorate the economic and industrial development of the anxiously
expectant masses.
