Germany provides Euro 48.97m assistance to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD—Germany will provide Euros 48.973 million to Pakistan for the reconstruction of Health infrastructure in earthquake stricken areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and rural Housing infrastructure in NWFP under Pak-German Bilateral Development Cooperation.
An agreement to this effect was signed by Secretary Economic Affairs Division M. Akram Malik and German Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Gunter Mulack here on Tuesday. According to the agreement thirteen million Euro would be spent on the reconstruction of Health Infrastructure in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, fourteen million Euro on rural housing and related infrastructure in NWFPand seven million Euro on national programme of HIV/AIDs.
The remaining amount of 14.97 million Euro would be spent on various projects in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Economic Affaris Division said the financial assistance committed by the German government will be spent in the quake hit areas of AJK and NWFP for the developemnt of infrastructure.
German Ambassador said that in addition to this, Germany will also provide 25 million Euro for the reconstruction of schools in NWFP. He said Germany is a reliable partner of Pakistan to supplement the reconstruction process in quake affected areas of AJK and NWFP.
APP Adds: Germany has committed financial assistance of Euro 48.973 million to Pakistan in context of Pak-German bilateral development assistance. Out of total, an amount of Euro 48.973 million, Euro 34 million is fresh commitment and Euro 14.973 million (re-programmed).
In this connection, an agreement on Financial Cooperation was signed between the two governments here at Economic Affairs Division Tuesday. The Secretary Economic Affairs Division M.Akram Malik signed the agreement on behalf of government of Pakistan while Dr.Gunter Mulack, Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany to Pakistan inked the agreement on behalf of German government.
According to the agreement, the newly committed financial assistance of Euro 34.00 million offered by the German government shall be used for the projects in the earthquake-affected areas. These projects are Euro 13 million for reconstruction of health infrastructure in Azad Jammun and Kashmir, Euro 14 million for reconstruction of Rural Housing and related infrastructure in N.W.F.P and Euro 7 million for HIV/AIDs,Blood Safety project.
The reprogrammed amount of Euro 14.97 million has been proposed to be used for the following projects in addition to previous allocation: Grid station Ghazi road (Euro 1.29 million). reconstruction of Heath Infrastructure in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (Euro 6.8 million-over and above the fresh commitment of amount of Euro 13 million.
