Malik steers PAF Blues to victory in CAS Challenge Polo Cup

PESHAWAR—Captain Shoukat Malik scored seven individual goals to steer PAF Blues to victory against Peshawar Polo Club by 8-5-and-a-half in the opening day of the 4-Handicap Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Challenge Polo Cup, which got under way here at Polo ground on Monday.
Captain Malik also delighted the sitting spectators with his excellent scoring besides perfect horse-riding and thrill-packed run. He was the pick-of-the-pack as he opened the account for PAF Blues by leaving rival players guessing. His magnificent run down the flank kept PAF Blues in tremendous command against Peshawar Polo Club on their home ground. The match was started with quick pace and Peshawar Polo having services of players like Major Munawar Shah, Major Jalil Aftab, one handicap player Naib-sub Muhammad Hussain and Hav. Raza Khan dominated the proceedings against PAF Blues as far as the first round is concerned.
For Peshawar Polo Club Raza Khan scored two goals while Muhammad Hussain Zahid Jan scored one goal each to make it four goals with one-and-half goal handicap to make it five goals and half.
But on the other hands, PAF Blues took the command when Captain Shoukat Malik scored two goals in second chakkar, two in the third chakkar and three in the third Chakkar to make it seven individual goals while the last goal scored by Flt. Lt. Fahad Aziz in the fourth Chakkar to make it 8-5-and-half.
Peshawar faced tough time against PAF Blues whose riders time and again raided with excellent horse-riding and ball control. PAF Blues have the services of top player like Senior Tech Tauheed, a two-goal player and Sqr. Nausher Khan and Senior Tech Manzoor, each are one-goal player. The final and prize distribution ceremony of the CAS Challenge Polo Cup will be held on December 2, 2006 at 4.00 p.m.
The tournament is being played on (0-4) handicaps with teams from PAF Bules, Remounts and President Body Guard have been in the group-A and ASC, PSC and PAF Red have been placed in group-B.
