Mufti Munib terms WP Bill as un-Islamic
D.G. KHAN—Chairman Central Roet-i-Hilal Committee Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman
declaring the Women Protection Bill un-Islamic Monday demanded of
Chaudary Shujaat Hussain, President of the ruling Muslim League to
resign from National Assembly following his promise.
Meanwhile, the PML President has rejected the allegations leveled by
Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman stating them baseless. Addressing a press
conference here on Monday, the Chairman CRHC said Women Protection Bill,
2006 was contrary to injunctions of Islam and didn’t preserved anything
which protect women rights.
The Chairman CRHC said Chaudary Shujaat Hussain promised that Ulema
Committee’s proposals would be included in WPB or otherwise would resign
from the NA. “Ch. Shujaat failed to fulfill his promise, so he must
resign”, said Mufti.
Mufti urged President Pervez Musharraf to review the Bill. He said the
rulers must avoid from acts which create disintegration between
community people. “The passage of the Bill has removed laws preventing
vulgarity”, he said. To a question, the Chairman CRHC said he has no
program to take part in election and had no links with any political
party.
Meanwhile, Chaudary Shujaat Hussain, responding to statement of the
Chairman CRHC said that Women Protection Bill was completely consistent
with injunctions of Islam as laid down in Quran and Sunnah. “Mufti’s
statement is baseless”, Shujaat said while talking to a private TV
channel in Islamabad on Monday.
“No clause of the law is un-Islamic”, he added. He said consultations
were made with Ulema before tabling the Bill in National Assembly. “We
asked Ulema to identify things repugnant to Islamic injunctions in the
WPB, but they didn’t mention”, he said.
Shujaat vowed that any fraction of the Bill found to be inconsistent
with teachings of Islam would immediately be amended. “If the Chairman
Roet-i-Hilal Committee considers anything in the Bill un-Islamic that
should be brought before me; I personally will talk to Ministry of Law”,
he concluded.
