No intention to dissolve PAs, says Durrani
Staff Report

ISLAMABAD—Muhammad Ali Durrani, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting has said that the government holds no intention of dissolving any provincial assembly adding that there is no need of an interim government.
Addressing a press conference at the parliamentary cafeteria on Monday, he said that the MMA talk of resignations is synonymous to a car without an engine. Those who will resign will not return back as whosoever comes to power gets elected through the power of public vote.
MMA’s attitude is becoming increasingly irresponsible. If they come to the assembly (we will) welcome and if they leave than we will bid them farewell. If they leave than they need to look into the fact that what options are at their disposal. The leadership sitting outside is pressing them for tendering resignations. MMA itself is confused. Once they leave the assembly than the nation will not pay attention to them. The leadership that wishes to leave the parliament eyes at extremism, if there is an intention of getting things done through pressure instead of elections it is dismissed by the people. MMA is facing divisions that has nothing to do with the bill. The Women Protection Bill is an accordance to Islam. These political parties are heading towards political gamble, things do not function like this in political societies.
The politics of stage-ins and threats doesn’t work in free societies. It is advisable for the opposition to prepare and wait for the elections. In response to a query, he said that MMA is bent upon launching a movement under all circumstances and the reason for it is not the women protection bill. They are being pushed for that. Getting the bill passed is our democratic right anyone with majority can amend a bill. The government never decided upon dissolving any provincial assembly.
In response to another question, he said that the process of dialogue continues adding that the opposition must not make a mockery of talks. The President is reviewing the bill. As soon as the review is completed it will be signed. No deal is taking place nor will a deal take place till the elections.
The results (of the elections) will rule out the point of we having a deal. People will decide as per our aspirations. The protection of women rights was supported by ANP, Achakzai (PKMAP), Imran Khan and PPP. There is no need of an interim government keeping the democratic demands in view. The government will complete its term. I allow the international community from today onwards to start monitoring for the elections.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Durrani has said that next general elections would be held free and fair under monitoring of international observers. He was addressing a press conference here at the parliament cafeteria on Monday. The Minister said that Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) was facing internal differences and divide and its announcement of tendering resignations from the assemblies was a ‘political gamble’.
The minister made it clear that the government wanted that all the parliamentarians to complete their respective terms. However, he added, the government would welcome the MMA legislatives if they continue their representation at the parliament. “We would greet if they partake in the parliament business and would offer farewell if they decide to resign,” he said and added that in case of MMA legislatives’ resignations, new parliamentarians would replace them as per the Constitution.
“The announcement of submitting resignations is reflective of the disappointment and internal differences of the religious alliance. This is a part of the politics of hurling threats and staging sit-ins which reflects the negative attitude and pressure politics,” he said and added that the masses did not allow such negative tactics as they have voted to ensure their representation in the decision-making process. Senator Durrani warned the MMA parliamentarians that in case of tendering resignations, they would not return to the parliament as they would lose the masses’ support if they resort to submit resignations. “The differences within the MMA leadership over the resignations are visible. Such initiative would be an extremist act and the democratic societies reject such acts,” said the minister and added that masses don’t support any anti-government movement.
“The MMA has announced launching of anti-government movement many a times and it is 21st time that they are making such an announcement. However, the government believes in democratic values and we are promoting the democratic values with the cooperation of the media,” he said and added that the MMA’s call of anti-government movement lacked public support. To a question, Senator Durrani said that launching the movement by the MMA leadership from Gujrat is actually is admitting the political significance of PML President and former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
