Govt, MMA
bent upon drawing war lines deeper
LAHORE—Minister for parliamentary affairs, Dr Sher Afgan Niazi has
warned that NWFP and Balochistan assemblies will be dissolved if MMA
does not allow the Women Protection Bill to be implemented therein.
He said this while talking to the journalists on the eve of a seminar
held here Sunday titled “Fikar-e-Sufia”. President Musharraf has finally
decided not to address the joint sitting of both the houses of
parliament, he told. President has powers to take any decision in this
regard.
Responding to a question, he said the present assemblies will complete
their tenure on November, 16, 2007. Later the interim government will be
put in place, he added. He underlined that the present government has
fulfilled its agenda based on service, development and prosperity. “
Therefore we hope we will win the next general election”, he added.
To a question on contacts with PPP-P, he said popular governments keep
up dialogue process with opposition. As far as any deal with PPP-P is
concerned, it stands ruled out ahead of elections, he underscored. On
return of Benazir and Nawaz Sharif to home, he said they will never come
back.
Responding to a question, he said amended draft of Hudood Ordinance is
fully Islamic, constitutional and compatible with Sharia. No clause
repugnant to Quran and Sunnah is incorporated in it, he reiterated. Two
members from Jamaat-e-Islami and three from Jamiat Ulema Islam were
included in government Ulema committee , he indicated.
He dispelled the impression as wrong that WPB will promote obscenity. “
I want to ask up to what extent obscenity was there in the country when
this bill did not exist ahead of 1979. Hadd has not been done away with,
he added.
To another question, he said MMA had made announcement on their
resignations on dozen of occasions. To my view MMA and resignations are
two things opposite. It is not necessary that house should be in session
when they want to resign, he added. NA speaker is there. MMA can present
their resignations to him in NA secretariat. Government is ready to
provide every assistance if they face any difficulty on this count , he
maintained.
He held if MMA wants to launch any movement against the government, it
should start it form NWFP or Balochistan. If I start protest campaign in
Lahore, not from Mianwali, it means no one is ready to hear me in
Mianwali. Responding to a question, he said presidential election can be
held even if the electoral college is incomplete. To another question,
he said I am not going to join PML-Q at the behest of some one else. I
am doing so on my own. All the patriots will joint
