PBC’s to present folk musical programme
ISLAMABAD—Central Production of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC)
will present a programme on folk music from Cholistan Rohi to promote
country’s traditional songs.
The songs to be presented will be sung by Pardesan who comes from family
of gypsy singers accompanying her husband who is also a singer named
Krishan Dan Bhatt. The couple is famous in the Cholistan area for their
melodious sound.
Some famous songs of country’s well-known folk singer and recipient of
the Presidential award - Pride of Performance Krishan Lall Bheel will
also be presented by PBC. Krishan Lal, a celebrated folk artist sings in
many local languages including Maarvari, Cholistani, Saraiki, Thari and
Rajasthani. He has attended many music festivals in Pakistan and
represented the country in cultural festivals abroad.
The songs to be presented based on sequence of a marriage ceremony
starting from Mehndi (Hina ceremony) to the actual day of marriage.
These indigenous songs are passed down generation to generation so they
never lose their authenticity and originality. The songs are from Thar,
Rajasthan and Maarvar. These songs give a natural touch of the
undulating sands and vastness of the desert. The songs also reflect
trends and culture of the area.
These songs are sung in every marriage ceremony and other functions
particularly in rural areas which make the atmosphere pleasant.
Programme Producer Nayyer Mehmood said this light folk and devotional
music programme will also be sent to the SAARC Secretariat to promote
country’s culture. She said Central Production of PBC has planned to
present series of such folk music programmes which will not only attract
the listeners but also promote country’s folk music inside the country
