Call for peace pact in Bajaur

ISLAMABAD—Terming the Bajaur bombing incident as an attack on the entire Pakistani nation, the combined opposition in a heated discussion in Senate on Friday opined that the attack on a military training centre in Dargai was the retaliation of the Bajaur bombing incident.
Senate members in a session which was convened on the requisition of Opposition said that the United States killed innocent people in Bajaur and our rulers took unnecessarily the responsibility of the attack. Maulana Gul Naseeb of Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) while participating in the discussion said that the United States was involved in an attack on seminary in Bajour in which 82 students were killed belonged from different tribal areas.
MMA leader said that the bombardment in seminary was an attempt to sabotage the expected peace deal in the area and viewed that Bajour and Dargai incidents were a conspiracy to create hatred among people and army. Senator Asfandyar Wali while terming the Bajour incident a sensitive issue said that Taliban is the creation of the establishment of the country who trained them and sent to Afghanistan in the past to fight against former Soviet Union.
Terming the official statement that the seminary was being monitored for the last one year, Asfandyar Wali said then why Maulana Liaqat was not arrested when negotiations were underway with him prior to a peace deal. The current government policies are forcing people to take-up arms, he added.
Condemning the Bajour incident, Senator Abdul Rashid said that on the one hand the government was engaged in the negotiating process and on other hand attacked the seminary. Abdul Rashid said that no weapons were recovered form the site and the international media after inspection the site declared it no threat for terrorism.
Senator Liaqat Bangalzai said that the nation is waiting for the answer of the question regarding the main responsible of the Bajour bombing incident. A report regarding denial of permission to Professor Khurshid Ahmed to meet Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan by security agencies on the occasion of his presence in the court was presented in the senate Friday.
The report was presented by Chairman of Senate Standing Committee on Rules and Regulations, Senator Col (retd), Syed Tahir Hussain Mashadi during the senate session. It was said in the report that authorities concerned were not taken into the confidence regarding the meeting with Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, that’s why no government department is responsible in this regard. The report recommended that in the future permission should be sought through authorities concerned. The chairman of the committee however said that he himself would request the Prime Minister to make possible the meeting between Professor Khurshid Ahmed and Dr Qadeer Khan.—Agencies
