No solution against will of Kashmiris: Durrani

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Durrani Thursday said that no Kashmir solution would be acceptable to Pakistan against the will and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
“The present government, under the leadership of President Pervez Musharraf, has taken concrete steps for the resolution of Kashmir dispute and the world community fully back our efforts,” said the minister while talking to Executive Director of Kashmir-American Council Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai who called on the minister at his office.
Terming Musharraf-Manmohan meeting at Havana a significant development, Senator Durrani said during the historic meeting, President Musharraf not only stressed the need for resolution to the long=standing Kashmir dispute but he also floated solid proposals for resolution of the problem to ensure durable peace in South Asia.
“Kashmir resolution would bring a new era of peace and progress in South Asian Region and for the very purpose Pakistan is taking all possible steps including the Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) with the Indian government which could ensure resolution to the long-standing problem of Kashmir. . Kashmiris are a vital party of the Kashmir problem and no solution is acceptable to Pakistan against the will of the Kashmiri people,” said the Minister.
He said Pakistan always wanted to resolve all issues with India in a peaceful manner so that both countries could progress. He hoped the Indian government would respond in the same manner.
Acclaiming the steps being taken by the government of Pakistan, Dr. Fai said Kashmir is a political issue and it should be resolved politically. He said the policy making institutions of the United States have also hailed the sincere steps taken by the Pakistan government for the resolution of Kashmir dispute.
He said expressing flexibility to resolve the issue is not weakness rather it is a bold initiative which indicates strength. He urged India to follow Pakistan which has expressed flexible approach for resolving the long-standing issue of Kashmir. Dr. Fai said Kashmiri people are the central party to dispute and their aspirations should be regarded. Vice President, World Kashmir Freedom Movement Nazir Ahmed was also present.—Agencies
