No intention to build ICBM, says Gen Ahsan

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan has produced the required nuclear weapons and has no intension to manufacture inter-continental missiles, said Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Gen Ahsanul Haq here on Thursday.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said, the ground troops could use the weapons as well as the air force. “Pakistan is self-sufficient in defence capability,” he added. Pakistan, he said, possessed all required weapons.
Gen Ahsan said that Pakistan’s missile programme was on the road to progress whereas the Indian missile programme was facing hindrances. “India has stopped its Prithvi missile programme and its missile manufacturing institutions are under immense pressure,” he added. He said that a 15-year plan had been evolved to put Pak Army on modern lines. The plan he said, was initiated in 2006 and would be completed in 2019. The plan includes provision of spy crafts and fighter jets to PAF, frigates and submarines to Navy and modern artillery to Pak Army. —Agencies
