Pakistan becomes destination for investment owing to reforms: Soomro

ISLAMABAD—Chairman Senate, Mohammedmian Soomro has said that Pakistan has emerged as an attractive destination for investment owing to reforms introduced by the government in every sector of the economy.
He made these observations while talking to German investors and South Korean Parliamentarians who separately called on him at his residence here today. The German delegation was led by Joachim Steinbach. Chairman Senate said the economy has come out of the woods and is now on its way to complete recovery and consolidation. Reforms, he said. lie at the core of our economic turn around.
These wide-ranging reforms have not only brought in macro-economic stability but also paved the way for foreign investment in the country, he added and expressed the confidence that the country would secure FDI worth 4 billion US$ this years.
As the investor confidence has been fully restored, the country is bracing itself for the 2nd generation reforms to further improve the competitiveness and economic viability of its industries, he observed.
The Chairman reminded that the telecom, housing and construction are the success stories in Pakistan and reputed telecom companies are doing a roaring business, similarly construction, hotel and housing industries are fast picking-up in addition to energy, oil and gas sectors.
All these areas, he said hold great promise and potential as there existed in them numerous opportunities for profitable investment. Earlier, talking to a group of South Korean Parliamentarians headed by Nam Kyung Pil, MNA, the Chairman Senate extended his felicitations on election of Foreign Minister of South Korea, Ban Ki Mon as Secretary General of the UN and said this development augers well for future of the world body.
He said Pakistan and Korea have identity of views on many regional and global, issues including nuclear non-proliferation. Soomro thanked South Korea for inviting workers from Pakistan and said that the Government is taking a keen interest in up-gradation of their professional skills. He also called for greater Korean investment in various fields and urged joint ventures of Korean firms with their Pakistani counterparts.
The leader of the South Korean Parliamentary delegation expressed his gratitude to the Government for Pak support to Mr. Mon in his elevation as the UN Secretary General.
