‘Govt keen to elevate public sufferings’

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Inter ProvincialCoordination Salim Saifullah Khan has said that government is keento elevate the sufferings being faced by the residents of backward areas of the country in general and NWFP in particular.
Talking to APP here Thursday, the minister said government’s commitment has been strengthened from its unprecedented initiatives taken for the uplift of backward areas.
A huge network of development projects in NWFP like supply of natural gas, roads, health, water and power is unparallel when compared with the performance of previous governments, he added.
Release of a huge amount like Rs52 million for the flood affected people of District Mardan by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Rs18 billion for the construction of Kurram Tangi Dam besides other projects speak volume about the concrete measures taken by the government.
The minister thanked President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz for taking interest in the resolution of long standing demands of NWFP people.
He said people in the province have confidence in the government’s policies.
“They want the government to proceed with its ongoing agenda which has been resulting in economic and social uplift of the masses,” the minister added.
Saifullah said those elements which are opposing the government on different issues have failed to bring people on the streets.
Even their supporters have been dismayed over their track record and the strategy which is nothing but to create impediments in the way of their welfare and development, he added.—APP
