By Asghar Ali Mubarak

ISLAMABAD—Opposition members in Senate calling the Women Protection Bill contrary to Quran and Sunnah has termed it a new chapter of obscenity and vulgarity.
Participating in the debate for the passage of the controversial bill from Senate the opposition benchers strongly criticized the women protection bill. On the other hand government members maintained that the bill is in accordance with the principles of Islam and will lead to doing away with the exploitation of women. Participating in the debate Wasim Sajjad said that lengthy debate on the bill has been done so that true facts are brought in front of the masses.
Nothing contrary to Quran and Sunnah can happen. Ninety per cent of the newspapers of Pakistan have appreciated the bill. We do not worry about Blair or Bush. No amendment has been made in section 5 of the Hudood Ordinance. Everything that was required to be in the penal section is been put in such. Now if a woman is raped than four witnesses will be presented before the sessions judge and in case the charge is proven will face trial under CRPC. Both the man and the woman will be held accountable under Hadd.
We have brought the illicit relation between the man and the woman under legal jurisdiction. Rape has been declared a crime and been penalized. In case the charge is proven five-year punishment would be given.
Maulana Gul Naseeb MMA said the bill will spread vulgarity and obscenity. In the bill the hadd has been repealed regarding rape. This law should not be passed and must be send back to the national assembly. Professor Sajid Mir said that Islamic law for rape should be introduced in the bill. The Islamic punishment for rape is whipping or stoning in this bill it has been abolished and capital punishment or ten years imprisonment has been introduced.
Senator Nisar Memon said today the defense of Pakistan is impregnable. The GDP stands at 7.7. Democracy is strong, women are getting their due rights. Prof Khurshid Ahmed said police misuses the power the most. Men and women are both subject to subjugation. There is not even a single clause in the bill for the protection of women. The powers of police are being curtailed. There was no problem with the Hudood laws the problem was with the system of police. For twenty-seven years it was not changed.
Federal Minister for Law Wasi Zafar earlier presented the bill in the House for approval and along with it five more ordinances were tabled.
